The economics of child abuse

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that child maltreatment is a serious and prevalent PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM.

Approx. 6 complaints per minute are made to child protective services every day in the US.

The total lifetime estimated financial costs associated with one year of confirmed cases of child maltreatment (physical abuse, psychology abuse, sexual abuse and neglect) is approximately $124 billion.

The estimated lifetime costs for each survivor of child maltreatment is $210,012.
The estimated lifetime costs for each stroke survivor is $159,846.
The lifetime costs for each individual with type 2 diabetes is between $181,000 and 253,000.
